Accommodation Update
The allocation of accommodation for all of the teams coming to Guernsey for the NatWest International Island Games in July is now complete.
Julia, the Games Director, and one of our team of volunteers, Michelle, have been working hard with the Islands for several months now.
The increasing costs involved with travel and accommodation are a challenge for all host Islands, including Guernsey, as the Islands are spread all over the world.
‘It has been a challenge’ said Julia. ‘We have explored a number of different options including cruise ships, temporary accommodation units and a tented village, and we have been liaising closely with the member Islands about their requirements. All of the Islands opted for existing hotel and self-catering accommodation. We have had several people offering to accommodate visiting team members in their homes, but the teams have requested to stay together as much as possible. We are now at the final stages of allocation and we would like to thank all of the local accommodation providers we have worked with for their support and cooperation’.
‘Accommodation for supporters that wish to come to Guernsey for the Games will be limited’ said Julia. ‘This was explained to the Islands when they visited in July, which is why we investigated other accommodation options. This has been an issue not only for Guernsey but also for other hosts as the Games have grown in popularity. It is a challenge, but we look forward to welcoming everyone to Guernsey next July and enjoying the Games together’.
The Games will take place 8-14 July with 3,000 people expected to participate in the event.
